A photographer’s view of Havana

By Visit Cuba / Posted May 26, 2016

VisitCuba is proud to present another set of photographs from Cuba.  Each time we receive a new album of photos, we get yet another view of the island. Canadian, Roy Belding, talks about his trip and experience:

“In January 2016, I spent seven days in Havana.  I’m a professional photographer/videographer and an avid baseball fan.  I have always been intrigued by Cuba’s extensive baseball history and it’s rugged beauty.  I had to see it for myself.

“I was not disappointed. Havana is a city like no other – everywhere I turned something caught my eye.  The colours, textures and details make it a photographers dream.

“In my experience, the Cuban people were friendly, kind and fiercely proud; there is a strong sense of community and family. While most Cubans are willing to be photographed, I prefer to try to capture more candid images of daily life.

“Many Cubans are weary of photographers as there are many that want to show it as a crumbling ruin.  That was not my intention nor was it my experience.   It is a beautiful place, filled with kind, optimistic people.  I hope my photographs do them justice. ”
